Tarot readings begin with a question you bring to the table. What issue in your life could use a fresh perspective?
Certain tarot spreads are particularly apt for specific types of inquiries. I offer a list of some favorites below as a way to help you think through the sorts of questions you may wish to ask, but please do not feel limited to these suggestions alone.
~If you are interested in a “quick take” on a fairly easy situation (15 mins): Then a “Three Dimensions” spread is best: three cards that each cast different perspectives on your question. If you are confused about a question, the Three Dimensions spread can simply be a response to: “What do I need to know about X issue right now?” However, the spread can also represent Past, Present, and Future; or Spirit, Mind, and Body ~ three-card spreads are very versatile. We will determine before the reading which kind of interpretive approach is best.
~If you are interested in undertaking a new project and want to think it through (30-45 mins): A “Keystone” spread of five cards is useful, in an arch arrangement. Great for entrepreneurs, artists, and creators.
~If you want to delve deeply into your relationship with another person (45 mins): My “Spinal” spread may suit you. I will place down six cards and read them in pairs, showing various aspects of the relationship.
~If you want broad, general life guidance on actions to consider for forward momentum (45-50 mins): The “Five Horsemen” spread offers counsel on four broad aspects of human existence (relationships, daily life or work, communications, and creative life-force), plus a recommendation about something that needs to be left behind or moved beyond. This spread pulls ten cards: The Five Horsemen plus their correlates.
~If you feel that there are significant unconscious or hidden aspects to the issue you are wondering about (45 mins): I recommend an “Iceberg” spread, usually involving six cards. One card represents the part of the issue that is visible — above the water line, so to speak — while the other cards suggest possible submerged aspects of the situation.
